The activity begins with a meeting with the guide and a short introduction about deer and the rutting season, helping participants better understand behaviour, calls and habitat.
Practical guidance is provided on how to move and observe wildlife correctly, minimising disturbance.
The hike follows mountain trails through beech forests, clearings and areas frequented by deer during this delicate phase of their annual cycle. Depending on the time of year and conditions, the outing may start before dawn—reaching rutting areas at first light—or in the early afternoon, continuing until sunset.
Along the route, suitable spots for listening and distant observation are identified. Here the group stops in silence to listen to the stags’ calls and, when conditions allow, observe their movements within the landscape. Attention is also given to the surrounding environment, forest sounds and signs left by deer.
The return follows either a circular route or the same path as the ascent. On afternoon outings, the return may take place in low-light conditions, using headlamps and always respecting the natural rhythms of the environment.
