Meeting point at 08:30 at the Tourist Office of Villetta Barrea. Meet your guide and transfer by car to Passo Godi, where the hike begins. After putting on snowshoes, we start crossing the Upper Tasso Valley, following wide and gentle curves that lead us to the Ziomas sheepfold—an ancient pastoral shelter still used by local shepherds during the summer season.
The trail then rises slightly toward the Ferroio di Scanno, a rolling plateau skirting the edge of the Integral Reserve. After a series of gentle ups and downs, we reach the final saddle, a truly unique place.
On August 12, 2003, Pope John Paul II stopped here in prayer, contemplating the beauty of creation in one of the most pristine areas of Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, close to the Integral Reserve. A large bronze plaque set on limestone marks this moment, created by the Pontificia Fonderia Campane Marinelli.
The panorama from this point is extraordinary: the peaks of Monte Godi and Monte Marsicano dominate the skyline, while farther away rise the rocky walls of the Camosciara and the unmistakable summit of Monte Petroso.
Packed lunch and return to the cars in the afternoon.
