Meeting at 8:30 am at the Barrea Tourist Office. Meet the guide and transfer by car to Pianoro le Forme, in the municipality of Alfedena. The trail begins inside the vast beech forest of Val Pagana and gradually climbs to the forest limit.
From here, the landscape changes: the unmistakable profile of the Gendarme and Monte Meta appears in all its majesty. Passing old shepherd shelters and high-altitude pastures, the trail continues through a valley shaped by ancient glaciers, eventually reaching Passo dei Monaci, a historic crossroads between Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, travelled since ancient times by pilgrims, traders and brigands.
This unique territory is home to a historic herd of Apennine chamois, agile acrobats moving among rocky ledges, cliffs and steep grasslands, grazing or resting on sheer rock faces.
Packed lunch and return to the cars in the afternoon.
