Guided bear-watching hike in the Abruzzo National Park
A wildlife watching experience in the wild heart of the Apennines
Bear watching dedicated to the Marsican brown bear is an intense and respectful experience, designed for those who wish to approach wildlife with awareness. In the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park—one of the last strongholds of this unique species—you will walk through forests, clearings and silent valleys in search of signs of its presence. Accompanied by local guides, you will observe the land with fresh eyes, learning to read tracks, movements and habits of the bear, in full respect of the environment and natural balances.
PROGRAM

Our approach to bear watching is not a “forced search” for sightings, but a journey of understanding the Marsican brown bear and the land it inhabits. The activity begins with a meeting with the guide and a short introductory briefing, during which the environmental context, rules of conduct and key characteristics of the Marsican brown bear are presented.

From there, a slow and silent hike begins in environments particularly suited to the bear’s presence, crossing forests, clearings and high-altitude grasslands of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. Along the route, the guide helps the group read the landscape and the signs left by wildlife, explaining the bear’s habits, movements and adaptation strategies to its habitat.

Observation takes place from carefully selected points, prioritizing silence and waiting, using professional binoculars; in low-light conditions, a thermal monocular may be used to detect possible presences without causing disturbance. The return follows the same respectful and discreet approach, with a final moment dedicated to discussion, questions and sharing the experience. Each outing is different and depends on natural, seasonal and behavioral factors, making every experience authentic and unrepeatable.

(The program may vary according to the season and environmental conditions.)
