We set off in the morning, with the first stretch leading us through the evocative area of Pianezza, a clearing that already hints at the majesty of the surrounding mountains. Continuing along the trail, we reach the Monte Forcone mountain pasture, where the panorama begins to reveal itself in all its splendor. From here, we can admire Monte Amaro, La Camosciara, and the spectacular Lake Barrea stretching out below us, reflecting the sky and the mountain profiles.
As we gain elevation, the landscape becomes even richer. The summit of Monte Petroso and the Serra delle Gravare appear on the horizon, while Val Fondillo opens up like a hidden gem among the mountains. During the hike, we may encounter the wildlife that inhabits these areas: red deer and chamois often move among the rocks, and by looking up we might spot the golden eagle or the majestic griffon vultures soaring through the blue sky.
The trail finally leads us to the summit of Monte Marsicano, where the view stretches as far as the eye can see. In addition to the peaks already sighted, we can admire the mountains surrounding Pescasseroli and Scanno, in a succession of valleys, ridges, and beech forests climbing the mountain slopes as far as they can reach. It is a spectacle that more than rewards the effort of the ascent: an immense expanse of wild nature that takes your breath away.
At the summit, we will stop for a well-deserved lunch break, to relax and enjoy this unique place. After recharging our energy and taking in the panorama once more, we will begin the descent along the same trail, but with a new perspective. Descending does not mean seeing the same things again: every corner of the mountain offers a different view, and what we climbed on the way up transforms, revealing hidden details and new vistas.
An unforgettable experience, perfect for those who wish to immerse themselves in the most authentic nature and experience the mountains in all their beauty.
