Meeting at 09:00 at the Tourist Office of Barrea. Meet the guide and short transfer by private cars towards the lake.
This loop route crosses a natural environment where emerging water gives life to springs—some of them perennial—and, flowing down the valley, feeds Lake Barrea. These have been sacred places since ancient times, where deities connected to the passage of water rising to the surface were worshipped. Everything flows and renews itself over time, just like the steep streams we will skirt along this relaxing itinerary through evocative woods and scenic viewpoints. The water of our ancestors still springs forth, remaining a source of life and inspiration.
The first part of the hike follows a dirt road crossing symbolic places of the valley: the old hydroelectric power plant, cultivated fields, the “locanda del tratturo”, and the necropolis of the Safina civilization. We then start climbing on a path that passes old dry-stone walls and springs, imagining how these places were once frequented. Reaching the Jannanghera Spring, we stop inside a large beech forest and have time for a snack.
On the way back, we descend along a different trail, among ruins and mule tracks that tell stories of past lives. From time to time, the view opens onto the whole valley. Return to the cars is planned for 13:00.
